Stop the Buck

Excerpts from the book ‘Thank You Guruji’ by Manoj J Lekhi.

The Traffic Jam at Rajkot

We were travelling from Rajkot to Jamnagar… about 20 of us in five cars. We had stayed that night at Rajkot at Chamanbhai’s place and started our journey in the evening. We had a very big program of Guruji in Jamnagar the next morning. We started our journey, Jamnagar being only a few hours away. But that night we were caught up in a traffic jam.

There was a huge accident on the road, and the traffic jam seemed just endless. The moment Guruji saw the traffic jam, he got out of the car and started managing the traffic, stopping all the cars from one side so to clear the traffic.

Looking at him all of us also started participating in clearing the traffic. It took us more than 2 to 3 hours in the middle of the night.

I remember Guruji sharing… ‘Whenever you see a traffic jam don’t wait for it to clear, you get off immediately and start clearing it; take the responsibility of clearing the traffic.’

I have often seen him clearing stones and boulders too which he would find on the road obstructing the path of other travelers.

This is what we learn in the second session of SSY. Guruji was always living this knowledge and teaching us by example rather than just through a class..

This lesson went deep into me and ever since I have done this several times in my life. I have been caught in traffic jams many times after that, some very big ones and some very small ones. I have immediately got off the car along with whoever accompanying me and have started to clear the traffic jam.

I have been successful all the times in doing so, and it was a lesson to me how to be like a Prime Minister wherever you are. When we take responsibility out of choice and understanding, things seem very smooth and we feel very fulfilled in our lives.

Thank you Guruji for teaching me always to take complete responsibility and to STOP THE BUCK!

Thank you Guruji!
